Rangihoua Estate

Rangihoua Estate, producers of award-winning olive oils, is one of Waiheke’s gems. Anne Stanimiroff learnt the craft of caring for olive trees while working for Stephen White at Stonyridge Wines. She and husband Colin Sayles planted their property Rangihoua Estate with olive trees, brought an olive press from Italy and set about producing olive oil. They have been consistent Gold Medal winners since 2002. (3 medals including Gold in the Aldo Flos Olei Awards, the Italian guide to the world’s Top 50 extra virgin olive oils, 2015) http://www.rangihoua.co.nz/our-awards/

I will be holding events at Rangihoua Estate through January and February 2016. Guests will be collected from the 10.00am ferry from downtown Auckland and transported to Rangihoua Estate, or can make their own way there, where they will be given a 45-minute olive oil tutorial and tasting by Anne Stanimiroff. Anne not only planted olive trees at Rangihoua, but also at many other locations on the island, and takes care not just of her grove, but of other groves, too. She’s an expert, and she’s passionate. This is not to be missed. She converts even non-olive oil consumers!

Guests will then be taken up to the Rangihoua Villa to meet with me for a cooking demonstration and lunch (approximately 12.00 noon).  This will be informative but fun, intimate and relaxed. Rangihoua Villa is a unique handcrafted home built by Colin and the Rangihoua team and guests are welcome to wander around the villa and grounds.

The afternoon will finish around 3.15 and guests will be dropped off at Matiatia to catch the 4.00pm ferry back to Auckland, or they can linger in Oneroa, have a final glass of bubbles at The Oyster Inn, or visit the Waiheke Art Gallery. Also on offer is a tasting of Waiheke wines at Waiheke Wine Centre. If guests choose one of these latter options (or all!) they will make their own way to the ferry by bus (it is one bus stop from these locations), or enjoy a 15-minute downhill walk to the ferry, or take a cab (there is a taxi rank just by The Oyster Inn and Waiheke Wine Centre).

Accommodation at Rangihoua Villa is also available. The Villa sleeps up to 8 people and is a lovely place to stay for a get-away. If guests choose to book the accommodation, they would take it for Tuesday and Wednesday nights if attending the Wednesday event, or Thursday and Friday nights if attending the Thursday event. The cost of the Villa is $895.00 per night, with linen and cleaning costs extra.

If staying the night, guests could then enjoy Waiheke the next day, joining a winery tour, or enjoying a long lunch at one of the fabulous restaurants on the island, or they could chose to walk part of the ‘Walk Waiheke’ web of walking tracks http://www.aucklandnz.com/images/uploads/page_images/te-ara.pdf

The cost of the olive oil tutorial and tasting, cooking demonstration and lunch including wines is $250.00 per person
