Tortilla chips – add texture to a bean soup

Fried tortilla strips

All you need to make tortilla chips is soft corn tortillas, a pan with a little oil and a pair of scissors!

Snip soft corn tortillas into strips with scissors. Heat olive or canola oil in a small frying pan – and you need about ⅓ cup of oil to a small frying pan (skillet) – over a medium heat. Add a handful of tortilla strips and fry, turning often with tongs, until golden. Transfer to paper towels and sprinkle with sea salt. Serve within one hour.

  1. Just thought I would let you know that canola oil is made from Rape Seed and as far as I am aware it is all grown either genetically or covered with round=up. (See above) . Unless it is Organic, which I have never seen. And just the smell when cooking with it is enough to make you ……….. And on that happy note I shall leave you!! Ciao, Joan

    1. HaHa! And on that happy note I shall never recommend it again! I have never used it myself, but people seem to go for it and I thought I would give them an alternative to olive oil. I shall investigate further. Thanks for the alert Joan!
