Birthday figs

Figs & haloumi

That’s what I love about living alone NO SHARING!

Yep, little ole me, and me alone, ate a plate full of gorgeous little baby black-skinned figs. I thought about sharing them, but when I opened the first one, and saw the gorgeous perfect red formation, I thought NAH, they’re all mine!

It was the night before my birthday so it seemed fair.

All I did was make a quick salad with a few witloof leaves and some rocket, dressed this with a little lemon oil and a splash of raspberry vinegar, scattered over a few pinches of chopped toasted hazelnuts and finished it off with crunchy crisps of Blue River haloumi sizzled in butter. Simply gorgeous.

I picked the figs up at the farmers’ market at Poderi Crisci last Sunday. Might have to go back for more …
