This book has been in development for over 18 months. It’s such a delight to finally hold a copy in our hands – Ilaria and I are jumping around with excitement!

Many of you have asked us for a book and that is so comforting to hear in this digital age.
I am first and foremost a writer. I just happen to be able to cook – mainly because I love food (hunger is a great motivation), and I love sharing food with people and believe happiness and harmony is created around a table of great food. My love for books far exceeds the expedient way these days of finding information online. I still use a physical dictionary! Of course, I am not alone.

Books are here to stay and it seems, cookbooks are more popular than ever.

Curled up in a comfy chair or propped up in bed on a lazy weekend morning, skipping from page to page of a good cookbook as you plan a delicious feast is one of life’s joys (for many of us, anyway!). As a cookbook is ‘christened’ by the very first recipe cooked from it, then when other dishes are discovered and re-cooked, and the pages spotted or splattered and become dog-eared and well-worn over time, it comes to hold memories. Memories of meals cooked from it for family and friends, and in turn it becomes a friend, much loved, always there, always reliable, though still offering surprise when you try something new, and inspiration when new ideas are sought.
We hope you will come to love our SHARED KITCHEN book and that it helps you build wonderful enduring memories with your family and friends. The easiest way to achieve that? Quite simply, cook from it!

I fully drew my lovely daughter Ilaria into the book project. I always tell her she is my favourite daughter (she’s the only one I have). To keep things balanced I tell my son Luca that he’s my favourite son. Yep, I only have one son. Luca has provided a few recipes for the book as well and he’s always experimenting, sticking this with that and making me think Mmmm. That’s the thing with kids who like to cook … you create a recipe and they highjack it putting their spin on it! We all love cooking, their dad Remo, too, which is a blessing, I think. It must be a dreadful chore if you don’t like it! Well, in saying that, the purpose of a good cookbook is to inspire people to cook. I hope this one does.

My 17th, Ilaria’s first

I’ve drifted off … I was going to say that Ilaria not only provides recipes for Shared Kitchen, she also does our social media and when the opportunity came to put this book together I roped her in big time. Sure, she had seen me put several books together but no one bar author and publisher know exactly what a book entails, and how loooooong it takes for everything to finally come together into a neat little stack of paper with words and pictures that you can hold in your hands: your book. That’s why we are jumping around!

Hey! Grab a copy!
We’ll happily sign your book with a personal dedication (or just sign it with our names if it is a gift, then you can add in the recipient’s name later – we’ll even tell you what pen we use so you can replicate our writing!).

Take a look at the images

I still get goosebumps! The photography is by talented Danish photographer Manja Wachsmuth. You can check out her work here Manja Wachsmuth
It was no easy task photographing the book – I live on Waiheke Island, Manja lives in Auckland and had babies to attend to! But we managed. The majority of the photography was done at my home on Waiheke and the chapter openers at gorgeous locations around the island. What a backdrop! The photography is outstanding.

Our most popular recipe …
Macaroni Cheese gets thousands of hits on Google. For a very good reason: It is simply a Best-ever!
There’s a whole chapter in the book on Never-fails & Best-evers, the sort of recipes you’ll use again and again because they can’t be beat!

Recipe notes are a feature

We take the time to explain the tricky bits in Recipe Notes to ensure you will have great success with the recipes. You’ll also find extended notes on classic things such as scones, roast chicken, pastry.

There’s also a glossary

We’ve included a 7-page in-depth Glossary to fill in the extra information you might
be searching for, or simply curious about. And the Index is extensive to help you find what you are looking for.
