Strawberries & Cream

Who needs a recipe for this? Well, it’s all about quality ingredients …

Such a lovely sounding duo, and so often a disappointment. Ilaria and I were at Clevedon Market last Sunday and picked up punnets of the most glorious strawberries. A rich red colour right to the heart, juicy and sweet and tasting of nothing but strawberry! Now is the time for the best strawberries (the end of spring and beginning of summer). BUT they are always best picked before rain, or a few days after (strawberries bloat with rain and it dilutes their flavour). Get yourself to a farmers’ market and get some this weekend and enjoy them in their simple beauty with a dusting of icing (confectioner’s) sugar and a puddle of cream. Yep, you want good cream. Cheap cream is cheap for a reason – it is thin. You want a luscious velvety puddle of thick (double) cream to create a plate of Berry Heaven.
