RNZ – Radio

How did I get started on radio? It’s a long story, going way back to the 1980s. You can read about it here: I climbed a mountain.

I’ve been a regular guest on Jesse Mulligan’s show Afternoons on RNZ since he took over the afternoon slot about 10 years ago. Don’t ask me where the last 10 years have gone, let alone the preceding decades!

Jesse and I chat about once a month. He loves food and enjoys cooking and his natural curiosity around a subject makes for lively chats. I love the thrill of live radio, never quite knowing where a question will take us, or how our banter will go. It keeps you on your toes! Listen in.

Julie Biuso chats with Radio NZ Afternoons host, Jesse Mulligan, once a month, Friday afternoons after the 3.00pm news.

Best-ever Bacon & Egg Pie

A good bacon and egg pie makes perfect picnic fare, the sort of thing that can be eaten without ceremony. This version is the ultimate bacon and egg pie, and richer than any I’ve ever eaten, but it’s 100 times more delicious. The filling is light and fluffy, almost like soft scrambled eggs, and spicy pungent notes from sage and nutmeg meld with the savoury, smoky taste of bacon. Listen to the radio broadcast with Mark Leishman 26th February 2023. Best-ever Bacon & Egg Pie

Spaghetti Taormina

Hailing from Taormina in Sicily, this pasta dish shows Sicilian’s inventiveness with eggplant, their most prized vegetable. Choose long eggplants rather than squat ones. Taormina is a picturesque hilltop town on the east coast of Sicily, with views of Mt Etna in the distance. It’s a gorgeous place to visit but overrun by tourists!
