Shake a stick at those tomatoes …
Yep, it’s the last gasp for outdoor tomatoes, even if they are in a sheltered spot, because night temperatures have dropped dramatically around the country this week. So harvest what you have, rip out the plants and use the soil for some other edible crop. If the tomatoes you pick are still green, use as green tomatoes (coat in a crust and fry in sizzling oil and butter), or make green tomato chutney (same as red but with green tomatoes!), or leave them on a slightly sunny window ledge to ripen. You’ve got to watch them because if the sun gets too hot the contents will boil inside the skin! Whatever you do, enjoy tomatoes! If you grow them, it’ll be several months before you have anything to harvest again.
Here’s all the blurb on roasting tomatoes.
