Sometimes known as Asian basil (horapha) this herb has small spear-like pointed leaves and lavender or white flowers and purple stems. Its flavour is reminiscent of sweet liquorice with a hint of cloves. Apart from using in Asian dishes, such as Thai green and red curries, and as an accompaniment to pho (Vietnamese soup), Thai basil also goes well with eggs and with fish. It’s another herb which is easy enough to grow in a warm climate, and it grows well from cuttings.
